Ad Credits RFP

Description

Research Area Summary

Meta advertising products can be used for academic research ranging from messaging field experiments to participant recruitment (e.g., a survey or clinical trial). Publications leveraging the unique targeting and reach of Facebook and Instagram ads have appeared in top journals in the social sciences, medicine, and beyond.

To broaden the opportunity to use this tool and deepen Meta’s collaborations with academia, this program provides researchers at accredited academic institutions with $5,000 or, in special cases, up to $10,000 in ad credits to defray the cost of purchasing ads on Facebook or Instagram for the purpose of conducting IRB-approved academic research. Payment will be made via depositing an ad coupon into the ad account of the researcher.

Research Topics

All IRB-approved (or international equivalent) research proposals from academic researcher(s) that conform with Meta Terms of Service and Advertising Standards  will be considered for funding, except that this program will NOT support partisan electoral activities or legislative advocacy and will NOT support research projects that involve deception or incomplete disclosure, regardless of debriefing. We are particularly interested in supporting doctoral students, early-career researchers, and researchers from underrepresented backgrounds.

Proposals will be evaluated based on their academic contribution and social impact. We will also strive to create a recipient pool that is diverse with respect to institution, researcher, methodology, and academic discipline.

Proposals should include

  • A summary of the project (1-3 pages) describing your academic affiliation(s), research question, timeline for research completion, ad credit request, and expected outcomes, as well as a description of the academic contribution and social impact of your proposed research project.

  • Screenshots of your proposed ad creatives. To obtain ad creatives, set-up the ads you seek to run in the Meta Ads Manager (this will require a Facebook page; you can create a new Facebook page for your study if you do not already have one). Then, take a screenshot of the preview of your ads to include in your proposal submission. For video ads, please also provide a publicly viewable link for the video.

  • Curriculum Vitae for all key project participants

  • The ad account ID of the investigator and link to the Facebook/Instagram page that will be running the ads.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to applicants worldwide from academic and/or research institutions that are eligible for research funding. This includes individual researchers addressing a well-defined problem, or multiple university departments. We encourage emerging scholars to apply.
